About Roshni

Roshni which means "Light", is a Not-for-Profit Charity. The Organisation was established in 1992. The strategic management and direction of the Centre is overseen by a voluntary management committee, who are representatives from the local Asian community. The day-to-day running of the organisation is undertaken by the Staff Team, who are made up of a mixture of Paid Staff and Volunteers.

Roshni has developed good working relationships with the local Asian community, and the high take up of our services is a testimony to this. Our Engagement strategies are diverse and culturally specific. We see ourselves as a bridging service; providing a link between the local community and mainstream services. Our aim is to engage, develop and empower women, so that they are able to take up available opportunities.

Many of the women who access the centre are isolated and vulnerable women with very little disposable income. They often have little communication skills in English language; have confidence and self esteem issues and often face multiple and complex barriers to engagement with mainstream services and opportunities.

Roshni Sheffield also has good working relationships and partnerships with organisations across the city from both the public and voluntary sector. We are part of a number of multi-agency initiatives and programmes to raise awareness of the needs of the Asian Community and work together to help meet that need. We are always keen to take up new initiatives in collaboration with other organisations.
