ROSHNI KITCHEN FEMALE ASSISTANT COOK JOB DESCRIPTION 

JOB TITLE:                  Assistant Cook 

RESPONSIBLE TO:         Roshni Kitchen Supervisor & Chef 

HOURS:         24 hours per week Mon-Sat 

CONTRACT PERIOD:       6 months – to be reviewed after 3 months 

Salary:         £11.44 per hour

Introduction:   

Roshni is a community organisation, which empowers women of South Asian backgrounds, breaking barriers of language and culture. Roshni Kitchen is opening with the aims of offering healthy and delicious South Asian cuisine, inspired by Ayurveda. Our café will provide training opportunities to South Asian women who have excellent skills in traditional cooking but lack formal qualifications. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced bilingual female assistant cook to work alongside a team of a chef and volunteers. 

Job Summary:  

The purpose of an Assistant Cook is to assist the Chef in the preparation and cooking of meals, as well as other kitchen/counter duties. This may include cooking, prepping ingredients, cleaning and sanitising equipment, plating and garnishing meals, checking food temperatures, and ensuring that all food is served in a safe and timely manner. The Assistant Cook ensures that the kitchen and the whole cafe is kept clean and organised, and that all food hygiene regulations are adhered to.  The Assistant cook also works on the till and will help with serving and the clearing of tables. They will also provide support to our volunteers and trainees and ensure that they are supported to undertake their roles.

Job Description: 

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking 
  • To prepare and cook dishes 
  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the kitchen 
  • Ensure food safety and hygiene regulations are adhered to 
  • Wash and clean kitchen utensils and equipment 
  • Assist with tidying and cleaning the cafe 
  • Assist with the till 
  • Assist with serving and clearing tables 
  • To work with volunteers and trainees as required  
  • To be presentable and polite with customers 
  • To assist the Chef with shopping for ingredients 
  • To undertake any other duties or training as required that are commensurate with the general level of responsibility for this post 
  • To undertake all duties in line with Roshni’s policies and procedures, particularly in relation to the safeguarding, health and safety, anti-oppressive practices and adherence to the confidentiality policy. 
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and purpose of the job as may be determined between the post holder and management. 

ROSHNI KITCHEN ASSISTANT COOK PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Fluent in at least one South Asian community language (Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and/or Bengali) 

Desirable 

You will have: 

  • Level 2 in Food hygiene 

 

  • Good passes at Functional skills/ GSCE level or equivalent experience
