A Lifeline of Support During the Holy Month Newsletter Winter/Spring 2026
Roshni Sheffield Asian Women’s Resource Centre is a registered charity founded in 1992 to address the unmet needs of South Asian women experiencing disadvantage, isolation and inequality.
For over 30 years, Roshni has provided a trusted, culturally sensitive space where women can access advocacy, counselling, wellbeing services, education and practical support. Roshni works with women facing a wide range of challenges, including domestic abuse, language barriers and mental health difficulties. Each year, the organisation supports hundreds of women, helping them regain stability, confidence and independence.
The Hardship Fund: Why It Is Needed
The Roshni Hardship Fund was created to respond to urgent and immediate need. It provides direct assistance to women and families who have no access to income, are waiting for benefits, or are excluded from public funds. Support includes food vouchers, essential household items and emergency financial assistance.
Rising living costs have placed increasing pressure on families already struggling to make ends meet. During Ramadan, these pressures are often intensified. The Ramadan Hardship Fund plays a critical role in helping women meet basic needs at a time when dignity, nourishment and peace of mind are essential.
Real Lives, Real Impact
“I had no food at home and no money coming in. I was surviving on tea and biscuits. When Roshni helped me with food and essentials, it felt like someone finally saw me and cared.”

Stories like this reflect the reality faced by many women who turn to Roshni in crisis. Through the Hardship Fund, women are not only supported materially but reassured that they are not alone — that their wellbeing matters. In April 2023, the fund supported 28 families with food vouchers, thanks to Ramadan donations and community generosity. This support provided immediate relief and helped families navigate an extremely difficult period with dignity.
