This is a great opportunity to be part of our supportive and friendly Empowerment Circle Project team to gain useful new skills and be part of a service that is a life line for Asian women in crisis/difficult situations.
Your work will involve face to face interviews with the clients, finding out and passing on relevant information, reading, explaining and writing letters, making phone calls and providing empathy and understanding.
We are looking for:
- Female volunteers, who are fluent in English and bi-lingual in one of the following languages - Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi or Bengali.
- Able to spare a minimum of 3 hours a week.
- Wishing to make a difference and help others.
You will gain free training to carry out your role, valuable work experience, new skills to help you into paid work and an opportunity to put something back into the community.
Our process
Volunteers are offered a 2-week taster period, where they get a chance to observe client interviews, as well as make a start on a self-study training pack. After the initial 2 weeks, the volunteer coordinator and the volunteer meet to review the volunteer’s experience so far. If both are happy to continue, the volunteer is formally welcomed into the team and completes a set of training materials as well as continuing to observe further client interviews. After the training is completed, volunteers gradually begin to take on one to one advocacy work with clients, with support from the Empowerment Circle team.
