Roshni Kitchen is a social enterprise. It is a platform for volunteering and training the women that we seek to empower whilst also generating much-needed revenue for the organization.
Women joining our Empowerment Programme have expressed interest in running a community-based food initiative where local residents from all walks of life, including isolated individuals who might not have opportunities to connect with a wider and more diverse community, can come for a healthy Asian lunchtime meal and meet others. Volunteers will not only gain catering experience but also acquire Food Hygiene and Food Industry qualifications and build confidence to manage this initiative as a collective community food business.
Roshni Kitchen will also specialize in the Ancient Indian health system called Ayurveda, which sees food as medicine and provides principles of selecting and cooking food for maintaining optimal health; through using spices and herbs. Ayurveda is enmeshed in traditional cooking methods and our South Asian volunteers are receptive to its application.
